About the South Hams and South Devon

Situated in the centre of the South Hams, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions of South Devon, Wagland Farm cottages with it's two exclusive self catering cottages, is only about 15 minutes from Dartmoor to the West and the beaches of Blackpool Sands, Slapton, and Tor Cross to the South. There are numerous other sandy beaches a little further round the coast heading West, linked by the South West Coast path, with spectacular views over Start Bay, Lannacombe and Bigbury Bay along the way.

Towns and Shopping

The historic market towns of Totnes and Dartmouth with their medieval origins and ancient castles, and the estuary town of Kingsbridge are all within 10-15 minutes drive away, with excellent specialist shops, galleries, museums and markets. The cities of Plymouth and Exeter are only 30 and 40 minutes away, both with exciting new shopping centres.

South Devon Beaches

There is a wide choice of nearly 20 excellent beaches to suit all tastes within 15-30 minutes, offering swimming, and surfing, wind surfing, fishing, prawning and sand castles!

Things to do – Rain or Shine

There is an almost endless variety of indoor and outdoor attractions and activities from nearby Woodlands Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo, The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, to the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. There are numerous National Trust houses and gardens close by, including Coleton Fishacre in Kingswear and Greenway House near Brixham.River boat trips on the Dart and steam train journeys from Totnes on the South Devon Railway make a great day out.

Eating out

Local pubs and restaurants of all types offer a wide variety of excellent food within a few miles of Waglands.  We can recommend venues to suit individual tastes and budgets, from the celebrated New Angel in Dartmouth to the more down to earth Start Bay Inn at Slapton Sands.

Sports and Activities

Walking – There are many and varied walks, including Dartmoor, the South West Coast Path and riverside walks along the Avon and Dart valleys. Closer to hand are miles of enchanting nature walks on Wagland Farm itself, with superb views across Dartmoor and glimpses of the sea to the south.

Cycling – There is plenty of scope for cycling, both on and off road, hilly and flat. Brochures are in the cottages.

Sea fishing – Excellent beach and rock fishing is available from nearby beaches as well as quality offshore charter boat fishing from Dartmouth and Salcombe.

Golf - There are several quality courses within 30 minutes, probably the best of which is the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club only about ten minutes away.

Tennis – There are courts available in Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Ivybridge; the nearest only 10-12 minutes away.

Horse riding – There are ample opportunities for exciting and challenging rides at one of the trekking centres or riding stables on Dartmoor and surrounds.

Swimming – There are indoor heated pools in Totnes, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Ivybridge, as well as several more in the Torbay area. There are, of course, any number of beaches ideal for swimming.
